As many of you are aware I began helping take care of my mother-in-law back during the COVID-19 lockdown and on March 16, 2023 we moved her into our home.

Over time Trish’s dementia had become worse and her short-term memory was about 5 to 10 seconds at best. In May she turned 100 years of age.

Physically she was still able to get around on her own with a walker. But because of the dementia it was best to not leave her unattended for for than 15 minutes at a time.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2026 around 9 pm Trish fell and the paramedics took her to the hospital in Denton. The ER team intubated her and ran scans and lab work. The doctor determined that she actually had a stroke and then fell as a result of the stroke. They transferred her the the hospital in Plano because the team there has a better neurology team.

Wednesday morning after accessing Trish’s condition and comparing her scans they determined that the best course of action going forward was to respect her DNR request. They removed her from the respirator, IV, and feeding tube. Palliative care was initiated to may certain that she is comfortable and pain free.

Thursday we met with the people from the hospice care team and finalized all of the necessary arraignments and said our farewells. 

We waiting for news from the hospice care but it is very difficult to determine how long someone will linger.
